Major disaster in Cali

Cutting that brush back and thinning the woods would sure make a lot of sense. And save lives and property along with untold numbers of wildlife killed in these blazes.

Well yeah it has to be hand cleared the first time since they let it grow out of control for decades. After that occasional safe burnings can work since it has not built up to the level that it ignites tree tops and causes a conflagration. We got a real visual demonstration from a ranger walk in Bryce once, the ranger pointed out the grossly overgrown forest and said it had 8 times more vegetation than was safe to burn. You skip the burns then you pay the price one way or the other. Pay labor to clear it or wait for it to burn to ashes.

We just came home from Millerton SRA. Auberry (18 miles away from Millerton) just received mandatory evacuation notice. Shaver Lake is about 17 miles up the road from Auberry. At the lake the smoke was so thick you could barely see the lake past the portable dock on the last launch ramp. So hard to breathe we had to leave.

Never had fires like this when logging was a viable industry in the state, my guess is the HIGH SPEED RAIL WON'T HELP.

Fire and smoke map looks like a kid's coloring book of red, yellow and gray. Just came from SE Utah, CO and into NM. Smoke all the way.

We are 35 miles from Shaver Lake. Sky looks like "nuclear winter". Ash falling like snow at times. Record heat expected today...108. Praying for all those involved.
