Looking for suggestions for camping starting in VA or NC and boondocking or staying in NF. Trout streams would be a plus. Have a 4x4 with Travel Lite truck camper.

Thanks,
Connie

A couple of areas I've been to and enjoyed that offered lake fishing:

In the Uwharrie National Forest, near Troy, NC., 2 campgrounds close together; 1) Badin Lake has some lakefront sites, no hookups. 2) Arrowhead Campground has 48 tent and RV sites. About 30 or so have electric with water spigots spread around the park and a dump station. Decent bathhouse. Sites w/electric are about $15 or $7.50 with the "geezer" pass. IIRC, there is an extra $1.50-$2.00 for electric if you are using the pass.

Near Wilkseboro, NC, there are several C.O.E. parks on the Kerr Reservoir with good fishing. Bandits Roost, Fort Hamby, and Warriors Creek come to mind.

And on the border of NC/VA line, north of Henderson, NC, there's some C.O.E. parks on Kerr Lake. Never been there to fish or camp. Good luck and have fun.

Take a look at this private campground - http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/v.php?pg=149

Here's a NF campground that is not too far away...

Check out the Tellico Plains area in the Cherokee National Forest in East TN. Lots of campsites (developed and dry) on the Tellico River. lizzie
