This should absolutely not be an argument, but apparently it is now...

Is it "dat-tah" or

Is it "day-tah" ?

Another vote for dah-tuh, the way English speak English. Or dat-tah. Whatever the BBC is using.

There is no correct way to pronounce anything in American English. We have more than 30 dialects in at least eight regional cultural groups, and for the past 40 years or so our official position for English language education is that all dialects are valid.

Well if it is "day - tah" that is the android on Star Trek. If it is Dah - tah" that is what you use for your internet connection.

Just for fun, run "data pronunciation" through Google! Doesn't say anythig either way, but a lot of fun reading. Do "Arkansas pronunciation" the same way, and you will learn something! There is a reason for that!

Having worked closely in the IT field for years, I can tell you that the vast majority of IT folks across the country say Day-Tuh. I've heard it both ways, however.

Thanks for the input. We've un-volunteered from the eLearning program.

The guy from Lawn-Guy-Lan can find two others with more suitable diction.

(EDIT: No offense intended to anyone from LI)

And if you live in Kansas it's always (Are-Kansas). Especially if you are in Arkansas City, KS. It drives my son, who lives there, crazy. Lol
