The Pan Handle of Maryland should be included -

Not trying to steal you from West by God Virginia - but - there is a lot to do in the area so I would not limit yourself to WV.

We've been to the Smokies twice this year staying at Riverbend Campground and Camp Riverslanding. We love the Smokies but there is nothing like Camping in all parts of WV. In the north we love Stonewall Jackson, it is by far the nicest campground with large sites, full hook ups, and quiet. There is all kinds of amenities at the resort. Nearby Weston is home to the old Allegheny Lunatic Asylum where you can take tours. You are also close to Elkins, Buchannon, Fairmont, & Morgantown.

We stayed at Stonewall Jackson a couple of years ago and loved it!

We have camped at several campgrounds in WV. Caanan Valley State Park is in the north. Very nice. We have also stayed at Trout Pond which is Forest Service campground. Very nice in the northeast area. Burnsville Lake and Sutton Lake are in the central part of the state and run by the COE.Somone mentioned Pipestem. That is probably one of the nicest state parks in the country. There is so much to do there. Tennis, golf, mini golf, horseback riding, nature walks, swimming pools etc.

Doesn't get any more northern West Virginia, but this place might have what your looking for. Fishing, small town, quiet clean state campground located in wooded area up on a hill. We were their 12 yrs ago. Had a great Time! :C Tomlinson Run State Park

OK, Is your rig one that would lend itself well to the Blue Ridge Pkwy, and Skyline Drive?

You could start in the Smokies and finishing up near Harpers Ferry WV.
Then go west into some of the WV state parks as others have mentioned.
Along this route you would have Shenandoah National park, several caverns, and the restored areas around Harpers ferry along with the western parks and campgrounds.

Click here to get started. Select "places to stay" and then click "campgrounds". That will give you a map of various campgrounds.

The sky is the limit. But I think anywhere you go in WV you are going to be in mountains and trees and hills and woods and curvy roads and ....

I 2nd that area.

Canaan Valley SP, Blackwater Falls SP, Seneca Rocks, Dolly Sods. Lots to see and do.

We really enjoy that area. Check out Seneca Shadows CG, nice spots and shady. Canaan Valley is a nice park, campsites are just ok but do have FHU if you're looking for that. Fantastic pool and golf course there as well.

Have fun & take your time. WV is awesome.

OK, how much time do you have, and how are you travelling?
From Tampa, if you travel 300 miles a day, it will take 3 days to reach wv, and of course, you need three days to get back.
Not a leisurely one week trip.
If you have time for two weeks maybe taking a one day moving and two days relaxing plan would make more sense, and would let you work your way up to Asheville and maybe Mount Mitchell, before heading back.
