Are CB radios worth it anymore for emergencies? If so what type has the best range?

Useful for traffic tie-ups/construction info from the truckers, but you have to put up with a lot of garbage. Ours has weather channels that will alert even with the volume down so I leave it on with no volume. When traffic gets heavy I crank up the squelch so I only hear those close to me.

Admittedly, I'm a CB junkie from way back when but as much as people bad mouth it now and frankly, I don't do much talking any longer, just yesterday, I was stuck in traffic wondering what was going on in front of me. Turned on the CB and had the traffic info in seconds on channel 19! I can't speak for anyone but myself, but when I'm in the MH towing my car and traffic is crawling due to an accident, I like to know what's going on and I also want to know what lanes of traffic are affected ahead.
It a small cost to pay for just this one reason..IMHO.

A few years ago I bought a CB for our then annual trek across NM and AZ on I-40, hoping to get in front of sand storms, snow storms, etc. It was useless. Channel 19 was silent. Cellphones have killed what was an amusing diversion 45 years ago.

We would only use it if the cell phone didn't have service but it sounds like the service is worse with the CB. Thanks

We are debating if we really need a CB radio for emergencies.
